Flexible SmugMug solutions meets the needs of an uncompromising and ever changing field
The number one demand of the fashion industry is that images look great, so SmugMug’s promise of “your images look better here” was all important. With out of the box mobile responsiveness, it’s a simple matter to find the right balance so the images were displayed large enough to be effective, no matter what device the site is viewed on.
We’re photographers – we like to see out images, and our site on big, 27″ iMacs. But a lot of us are finding that most of our visitors are viewing our sites on tablets and phones.
The fashion and publishing industry however still has a lot of traffic from larger screens. A photo editor is much more interested in seeing your images large, to gauge quality. So for Creative Space, it was essential the site work on the smallest, and largest devices.
When Grace first sent me the layouts I was most concerned about the dual navigation. In addition to an overall navigation menu, showing every gallery for every artist, each artist’s section needed its own navigation. In most cases I recommend against sidebar navigation now, as mobile devices can’t display a sidebar without making the images smaller. But for editorial audiences, it’s still a viable alternative.
The nature of Creative Space’s business is that they are constantly adding new artists, so it was essential this dual navigation scheme be as simple to create as possible. With SmugMug’s tools, it’s possible to add a new artist, with several galleries of images, a video gallery and a bio in a matter of minutes.
